MAKING PERSUASIVE WRITING FUN AND EASY
Persuasive
essay can also be known as opinion essay. Its main aim is to convince, persuade and also
sway the opinion of the reader.
Let the
children know the difference between Opinion and fact. Give children several
examples
It is very
important to write about the children’s interest because this will make them write
with so much passion. For a beginner, children can start with a five paragraph
essay: not too long and not too short. It must also be convincing and includes
facts and quotes from experts in that field.
Format of a
persuasive essay
The
First paragraph
Introduction
This include the lead, the topic
sentence the opinion of the writer and sometimes the reasons

The
second paragraph
This is the first main reason
supporting your opinion. It must include details{ facts and quotes}
|
The
Third paragraph
Main reason two; supporting your
opinion
|
The
Fourth paragraph
This is the third reason supporting
your opinion
|
The
Fifth paragraph
Conclusion
This is where we restate our opinion
and what we want the reader to go with.

Children
should know the acronym O.R.E.O. bring the biscuit to the class and paste the
pack on the board. Give it the biscuits to the children that can tell you the
meaning of the acronym after teaching.
Teachers
must remember that they start from children’s interest. Things you know they
will like to discuss. For example;
· Children should choose their bedtime
· Break time should be for one hour
When we ask
children to write what they are emotional about; it becomes very easy to teach
them
Give
children a printed copy of a persuasive essay and let them identify the
different parts.
Games
· Divide the children into groups and
hand over cardboards and glue to them.
· Give the children the different parts
of a persuasive essay and ask the groups to glue it on the cardboard using the
format above.
· Go round and check their work.
Ask the children to write their favorite food
and three reasons why it is their favorite food.
